My Experience with the Alternative Options
Honestly, when I first received the AMResorts notification about the Seaside Grill closure before my trip last September, I was a little bummed. The Seaside Grill had been my go-to spot for a quick lunch with a stunning ocean view during my previous stay. I envisioned myself missing out on those perfectly grilled fish tacos. But, I decided to embrace the change and explore the alternative options the resort offered.
I started with Himitsu, the Asian restaurant. Usually, I’m hesitant to try Asian cuisine at all-inclusive resorts, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the teppanyaki, and Chef Kenji put on a fantastic show while preparing a delicious meal. The flavors were authentic, and the presentation was top-notch. I also sampled some sushi rolls, which were surprisingly fresh and flavorful.
Next, I ventured to Market Cafe for breakfast. They had a huge buffet spread, much larger than I remembered. I was able to find something that I wanted to eat every morning. I tried the omelet station and a fruit and pastry buffet.
A Pleasant Surprise: El Patio
But the real revelation was El Patio, the Mexican restaurant. I had overlooked it during my previous visits, but with the Seaside Grill closed, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the enchiladas verdes, and they were incredible! The sauce was rich and flavorful, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. I even ended up going back a second time during my stay. I have to say that dining here became one of my favorite experiences.
While I initially missed the convenience and ocean view of the Seaside Grill, I discovered some hidden gems at Secrets Playa Mujeres. The temporary closure pushed me to try new things, and I was ultimately rewarded with some amazing culinary experiences. I’m really looking forward to seeing the improvements they’ve made to the Seaside Grill, but I’ll definitely be revisiting Himitsu, Market Cafe and especially El Patio on my next trip.
